The Effects of Antioxidant Vitamins on Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidative Enzyme Activities in Aflatoxin B©û Treated Mice

Abstract
Aflatoxin B, (AFB©û) is a potent hepatotoxic and hepatocarcinogenic mycotoxin in human beings, and lipid peroxidation is one of the main manifestations of oxidative damage. The objective o1 this study was to examine the effects of antioxidant vitamins on AFB, inducing cellular oxidative damage. Intraperitoneal injections of vitamin C of 10 mg, kg and vitamin [: of 6:3.8 in gig were repeatedly administrated for .1 times each 2 days interval to male ICR mice of 6 weeks old. One hour later of vitamin treatments, AFB, of 0.4 mg/kg was injected by the same way. The results were as follows. The only AFB, treated groups had a remarkable decreased in body and lives- weight. The MDA level of liver and kidney was inhibited with significance(p<0.01) in pretreated groups with antioxidant vitamins. The SOD and catalase activities in liver and kidney had no statistical significance in the AFB, only treated groups, but otherwise, on catalase activities: the antioxidative vitamins co-treated groups were decreased with significance at p<0.05. SDS-PAGE was also performed to the detection of stress protein, and 70kDa range band was confirmed. It means that protein expression was apparently increased in the AFB, alone treated groups, compared with the control groups. The present results indicate that AFB,-induced cellular toxicity was more effectively protected by antioxidant vitamins.
